In Czechia the cycling route EuroVelo 4 starts in Slapany via Cheb and along Ohře River to the spa gem of Carlsbad (Karlovy Vary). From the spa town the route continues off the river as route 39 through beautiful countryside of Křivoklát region continues by the mediaeval castle Karlštejn as cycle route 3 to Prague. From here it goes to Lázně Toušeň (cycle route 17/Greenway Jizera), along the Elbe route to Kolín and further on to Kutná hora (UNESCO site). Across the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands through Žďárské vrchy to Žďáru with the UNESCO church at at Zelená hora, and romantic valley of Svratka river to South Bohemia. Near Bystřice you can visit the gothic castle Pernštejn, and later on Porta Coeli in Předklášteří. From here continue to Brno water reservoir to the capital of South Moravia Brno with fortress castle Špilberk and cathedral Peter and Paul. Near Brno is the famous battle field of Austerlitz where napoleon Bonaparte celebrated victory. South Moravia is region of wine and monuments, via Kyjov to Czech-Slovak borderland and river Morava. Along the river, cycle to folklore capital Strážnice,and to Kroměříž, (UNESCO gardens). Continue on cycling route 5 via Hranice n. M. along river Odry to Ostrava, capital of Moravian-Silesian region where you can admire rich industrial heritage in Dolní oblast Vítkovice or in Landek parku right at the EuroVelo 4. Past Bohemian the route enters Poland. Across the entire country the route stretches for more than 900 km and we therefore recommend to divide your cycle holiday in 2 parts each 10 days while using the cycle friendly services „Cyclists Welcome“.
